Interested in judging? Here’s the lowdown. 🙂
Are stories stripped?
After a pre-launch discussion with one of our more knowledgeable friends, and I took his recommendation to forgo stripping the stories due to the time constraints it placed on the contest runners and judges (and time has been the leading cause of contest death). So, I’ve decided to adopt the “honor system” policy, whereby judges pledge to do their best to be objective. 🙂
We also have a community winner, which should balance things out/inhibit most concerns about objectivity (although judging is, at its very nature, quite subjective as it is).
What if there are multiple great stories?
Unfortunately, there does have to be just one winner (per judge), but we know that some weeks will receive multiple amazing submissions. So, if there any you’d like to nominate for inclusion in the anthology, be sure to say so.
How many runners up, etc., should be awarded each week?
We recommend, per judge (or fewer, if there are multiple judges that week):
Three Honorable Mentions
Two Runners Up
One favorite line from however many stories you feel inspired to do this for (not required but nice to do)
If you need to tweak these numbers a little (e.g., up to four honorable mentions or three runners up), that’s okay. But please don’t overdo it. Somebody has to win. 🙂
Do judges need to communicate/coordinate?
Not unless you’d like to. If two judges have two separate winners, then we’ll have two judges’ winners that week. No biggie. That way, there is no arguing, and you don’t have to defend your position, etc. I feel like this will save time and be less of a burden on you both. (If you disagree, please let me know.)
When are results due by?
Sunday would be great to have the results, if at all possible, so I can have them ready for Monday 12p est. I try to set it up in advance, due to my schedule constraints. Earlier = better. 🙂
